Affliction 3: Mousasi vs Sobral

It originally seemed Mousasi would face Vitor Belfort at Affliction's third event but apparent issues what weight class the fight were to take place in snuffed the fight. Mousasi an ex middleweight who is now fighting at light heavyweight stated he could not make the weight to fight at middleweight and Belfort and ex light heavyweight now fighting at middle weight had no interest in moving back up to light heavyweight. Babalu who is currently the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion will now meet Gegard Mousasi at Affliction: Trilogy in August.

Affliction 3: Mousasi vs Belfort not likely

Although the bout for Affliction 3 was confirmed by Gegard Mousasi after Dream 9, there is a possibility it might not happen. According to Tatame.com Belfort has not agreed to the fight, and has no desire in moving up in weight to face Mousasi.

The middleweight title fight between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza which was the main event at DREAM 9 ended in disappointment. Miller and Souza had previously met in the DREAM middleweight tournament, where Souza defeated Miller by decision. The rematch however did not play out as either fighter had hoped. Sengoku: Confirmed Bouts for August 2nd

Lightweight champion Satoru Kitaoka will defend his belt against Mizuto Hirota, and in the featherweight tournament Hatsu Hioki will face Masanori Kanehara and Marlon Sandro will take on Michihiro Omigawa Middleweight Kazuo Misaki will face former PRIDE and UFC fighter Kazuhiro Nakamura, the winner gets to fight Jorge Santiago later this year for the middleweight title. An interesting note is that the title fight between Kitaoka and Hirota will be scheduled for five five-minute rounds much like in the United States.

UFC 98: Pyle replaces Wilson

Mike Pyle will replace Chris Wilson against Brock Larson this Saturday at UFC 98 in Las Vegas. The reason for the replacement is due to the fact that the athletic commission could not get more detailed medical information from Wilson's doctor. Affliction 3: Fedor vs Barnett to Headline

Rumors circulating are that the third event from Affliction will take place on August 1st at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. which is the same venue where Affliction held their previous two events. The main event will feature Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett, an official announcement is expected in the next couple of days. Affliction president Tom Atencio mentioned the possibility of Emelianenko vs. Barnett if each fighter won their respective bouts at January's Affliction card Day of Reckoning. Both fighters did their part, Barnett defeating Gilbert Yvel in the third round by submission (strikes), Emelianenko in the nights main event defeated Andrei Arlovski with a first round knockout.

UFC 101: Leites vs. Sakara officially completes the card

The official addition of Thales Leites vs. Alessio Sakara at UFC 101: Declaration August 8th in Philadelphia completes the event. Cheick Kongo will step in for an injured Heath Herring at UFC 99 in Cologne Germany and take on heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez. Kongo has won his last three fights after dropping a split decision to Herring in early 2008, his latest victory a second round stoppage of Antoni Hardonk at UFC 97 in April. Velasquez is undefeated in his young but promising career, fighting out of the renowned American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA, Velasquez holds a record of 5-0. Anthony Johnson was scheduled to face Matt Brown at the Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale on Spike TV, but a knee injury forced the heavy handed striker to withdraw from the bout. The news was originally posted on Johnson's Myspace and later confirmed. The UFC however, has not announced that Johnson will not be able to take on Brown at the Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale. Johnson would have been looking for his third straight victory after defeating Kevin Burns and Luigi Fioravanti. No time table has been given for Johnson's return.

Thales Leites will step into action again at UFC 101 August 8th in Philadelphia, PA. he will be replacing Rousimar Palhares who was scheduled to fight Alessio Sakara but was forced to withdraw from the fight with a fractured Tibia. Leites will be returning after a dismal performance against Anderson Silva at UFC 97 which earned both fighters much criticism. Leites will have to come out and put on an impressive performance to erase memories of the atrocious UFC 97 main even bout with Silva.
